My latest Walk - Caw Fell

On Thursday April 12th, I went with a friend to the Cold Fell Rd close to Ennerdale. We made an ascent of Caw Fell. The weather was great for walking, sunny and on the cool side. The above photo gives an idea of the route. Caw Fell is right in the middle of the photo. Our route was intially following an old miners track which veers of to the left and the swings round into the small forest ahead.

Once we reached the main ridge, it was just a matter of following the wall, which took us directly to the summit. The wall has been rebuilt in the past few years.

Here is yours truly on the summit of Caw Fell. I really must try and lose some weight! The summit is a large plateau. In the distance, we have, from left to right, Pillar, Scoat Fell and Haycock. The wall is unbroken all the way to Scoat Fell. The view from the summit is not too bad, but the broad plateau does not lend itself to dramatic photos.

We returned by the same route. The above gives you a good idea of the gentle rolling nature of the ridge. The whole walk was around 12 miles, but there was only one steep section. It was an enjoyable day out.

Why not stop having these strolls in the countryside and do something serious instead!
