Well, I'm back after a bit of a break. I have decided that I will never be a prolific blogger - but I will try and do some blogging as the spirit moves me!
For the past 10 years or so I have been researching my family history. I began to try and discover something about my late father's family. My grandfather Harrison ( who died some 15 years before I was born) was completly estranged from his family. The reason for the rift is unknown as he never told my father what happened. The consequence being that even my father knew hardly anything about his fathers family. Over the past 10 years I have found out quite a lot, including the fact that many of my ancestors are true dyed in the wool Preston Catholics - which pleases me no end.
Quite recently I have turned my attention to my Dad's mother side the Holdings from Brindle ( which is between Preston and Chorley). I have discovered 3 other surnames associated with them viz. Fowler, Riding and Ironside. What is more they all appear to be inter-related and connected. I have a feeling I am going to have fun sorting them all out!.

Dear Father,
Some of my ancestors were Harrisons, too, but I don't think they were catholic. They had a saddlers' at the butter market at the bottom of Lune St. around the turn of the century (last century, I mean).
Marton? Is that St. Monica's, the newish church where there was - for a while before Summorum Pontificum - a monthly missa cantata?
Ironically the Harrison line is the one I'm having most difficulty with!. Despite it being a very common surname I have found out very little about them apart from the fact the come from the Croston Bretherton area.
St Monica's did have the TLM up to a couple of years ago...
Not surprised about the interconnections. I'm my own 4th cousin. that happens a lot in places with small populations.
My own grandmother didn't know she and her huband were 3rd cousins until I told her.
